New York based airline JetBlue is said to be considering a move out of New York to sunny Florida as its current lease at the company’s Long Island headquarters expires in 2023.  JetBlue said it is considering “all options” including staying at its current location, moving somewhere within the New York City area or moving to Florida where it has a large training center and other facilities in Orlando, or to Fort Lauderdale where the company operates other travel related services.

JetBlue lost $1.4 billion last year during the pandemic and is said to be trying too plug the gap and moving its home office to Florida is currently the leading option according to one JetBlue executive we spoke with on Wednesday saying “In Florida the cost to operate would be significantly cheaper in terms of real estate, buildings and logistics.  The company operates flights across the United States and has some limited international routes throughout the Caribbean and is aiming to launch new service to London later this year.

The airline operates a fleet of Airbus A320 family-sized aircraft and Embraer E-190 aircraft and recently tool delivery of its first Airbus A220.  JetBlue is the nation’s sixth largest airline and a large number of its flights fly between the Northeast and Florida and has been increasing its marketshare for transcontinental flights to the west coast.
