Thursday afternoon a shooter opened fire at the San Antonino International Airport but was shot and killed by police before any of his own shots could hit anyone. According to eye witnesses and security footage, the gunman came up the wrong direction into the arrivals area and began shooting at the building and random people.
“This guy has a full box of ammunition, he had a .45 caliber handgun he was shooting at the direction of the terminal, at the police officer, and behind him. We are very lucky not to have a lot of people injured or killed,” said San Antonio’s Police Chief William McManus.
After being confronted by police, the suspect got out of his car that he had driven the wrong way up into the arrivals area and began shooting at the building and the police officer. According to police, the responding officer worked for the department for 11 years and returned fire killing the shooter. McManus later said the shooter was known to the police and has significant “mental health issues.”
