Jeff Bezos has announced that he and his brother Mark Bezos will be on board Blue Origin’s New Shepard first crewed flight on July 20th, just 15 days after he steps down from his job as CEO of Amazon.  “Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space… I will take that journey with my brother.  The greatest adventure, with my best friend,” wrote Bezos on Instagram.  Jeff Bezos owns Blue Origin and is the world’s richest person with an estimated value of $187 billion.

Other rich billionaire tycoons with space venture’s include Elon Musk and his SpaceX and Sir Richard Branson with Virgin Galactic.  SpaceX is already operating cargo and manned flights into space to the International space Station and Virgin Galactic is expected to start its space tourism flights later this year in 2021.  Neither Elon Musk or Branson have said they were planning to go into space themselves.

Blue Origin’s New Shepard is a six person capsule sat atop a 59 foot rocket that is expected to fly to very low earth orbit.
