India’s Health Ministry has recorded 6,148 deaths from Covid-19 in a 24-hour period, the absolute highest of any country in the world.  In April a second wave began spreading across India with the number of new cases increasing to over 250,000 per day.  By the end of May, the number of new cases finally began to level off and recently began to go down, despite deaths going up.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this week that it will provide the Covid-19 vaccine free to all adults.  Up until now, it was available to wealthier Indians with private health insurance and a small amount was available to lower income residents.  India only has about 5% of its population vaccinated compacted to the United States which has surpassed 50% with some states going as high as 75%.
