Harris County Wins Court Order To Block Gov Abbott’s Ban On Local Covid-19 Restrictions

Judge Jan Soifer of the 345th Civil District Court has granted Harris County a temporary restraining order blocking Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order that restricts local government officials across the state from enacting local Covid-19 requirements.  Harris County along with Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin and many other school districts have ignored Gov. Abbott’s executive orders and ordered masks for students at school.  Some smaller districts have said they will take a wait and see approach about requiring masks, depending on the legal outcome of the bigger districts that are battling with the governor.

Abbott has vowed to appeal the court’s temporary restraining order against his July 29 executive order which prohibits local officials from issuing their own pandemic related requirements such as masks or vaccines.  It also includes all of the states public colleges and universities.
