Early Monday morning six Palestinian terrorist convicted of major crimes were able to escape the Gilboa prison, one of Israel’s most secure prisons, and is located just two miles from the frontier barrier.  Of those that escaped were three Islamic Jihad militants serving life sentences for deadly attacks on Israelis, and Zakariye Zubeidi, who was a militant leader in the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade from the West Bank city of Jenin.

According to Israeli authorities, the men were able to use the prison’s drainage system to escape.  Gilboa prison is one of Israel’s most secure prisons used to house the most serious offenders who have committed murder and other serious terrorist acts.  Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s office said that escape is a “grave incident”.  The Army, and Shin Bet along with extra police have been brought in to find the escaped terrorist and return them to prison.
