Denver, CO based Frontier Airlines has announced a major fleet expansion as it plans to bring on an additional 91 new Airbus A321neo airplanes, bringing its total unfilled orders to 234 airplanes with 272 in total in the airline’s fleet. Frontier currently operates one of the newest and youngest fleets of airplanes in the United States. President and CEO Barry Biffle said Frontier is “43% more fuel efficient” on average per seat compared to other U.S. based airlines.
Of the aircraft now on order, 76 are Airbus A320neos, 158 are A321neos including the A321XLR. 18 of the orders contain the ability of Frontier to convert it to an A321XLR. Frontier said they will receive all of their orders by 2029 and that 100% of their fleet will be the airplanes will be NEO, or new engine option, an upgraded and more fuel efficient version of the current A320 family of airplanes. Overall, the airline is moving to larger airplanes.
